1916: Weaving Public & Private Narratives
Welcome to Inspiring Ireland Inspiring Ireland is a growing project to make Ireland's digital cultural heritage available to everyone, and to provide rich themes and narratives to contextualise that heritage. This project of the Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI) first launched in 2014 with a beautiful collection of objects from eight of Ireland's national cultural institutions. Artfully grouped into three broad but fundamental themes - Sense of Place, Sense of Identity, Sense of Freedom - these initial exhibitions provide a window into Ireland's rich social and cultural heritage. The pilot project quickly received accolades, and won three Ireland eGovernment Awards in early 2015, including the year's 'overall winner.'
For more on the background of the project, please see About the Pilot Project.
I have learned so much from Howard Zinn!
What an amazing person and an inspiration!

A REAL history lesson!
Dear fellow Citizens, of Britain and the wider world, against Zionism,
For many weeks we have seen the Zionist in Israel destroy Homes, Hospitals, Mosques, Ambulances and lives as we in our thousands and millions around the world protested to the deaf ears of our leaders. There has been protest after protest from Sydney to New York and Cape Town, South Africa to Dundee, England. We have protested and requested people to boycott Israeli goods, service companies and propaganda TV channels like the BBC. Whilst we chant, Palestinians die and our leaders enjoy themselves on vacation.
Many will be wondering; is it making any difference? Are we wasting our time? Some will be thinking “We cannot do anything” because the Zionists control the media and their Zionist friends in Washington ensure the money and the weapons keeps coming in, regardless of how many honest, hard-working, tax paying Americans march in Chicago and New York.
Am here to tell you different. Different to any Charity, human rights organisation or cause with an interest in raising money. For this information, I do not even want recognition. Who am I? I am like you, a Palestinian working in Finance and until the day I die, I will be a Palestinian. Here are my words to you.
You, and I don’t meant the person next to you, I mean YOU; have already made a huge difference to the Palestinian Resistance.
Palestinians don’t want your money or your pity looking at the pictures of children dying on Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter. This is their struggle and they do not mourn, not until they are free. Palestinians want you to understand their pain, suffering and their frustration but not feel sad. They want you to get ANGRY. They want you to fight OUTSIDE Palestine for their freedom, whilst they fight inside for a right to live on land that belongs to them.
The want you to RISE and SHOUT, not provide medical supplies to patch up the wounds whilst, year on year, they remain occupied. All that protesting for nothing if they remain under siege. Palestinians need you to fight for what is their right to move freely. To travel by land, sea and air like we enjoy. This fight should be in the social and political space, NOT in the military way. They are quite capable of doing this themselves. For each Palestinian, there are 1000 of us in the world protesting. That’s 1000 people shouting FREE FREE PALESTINE for EACH Palestinian. Just imagine the ear shattering sound outside the White House and Downing Street.
After listening to all the different viewpoints on Facebook and Twitter regarding Boycotting and daily struggles or getting products and services, I have put together a proposal. I support the BDS movement however I see one huge problem with their stance. Take for example a village scenario. The 2 big supermarkets enter the village some years ago and as you are aware, every local shop owner is put out of business. The locals now have a choice of 2 supermarkets for all their essentials. BDS say “don’t go to both supermarkets.” There lies a problem for the locals. What are they to do? So they ignore the BDS and carry on shopping at both Israeli supporting supermarkets. BDS has failed these people. Again, don’t get me wrong, I fully support the BDS but unfortunately, this part is not working. Lets UNITE because make no mistake, the BOYCOTTS ARE HURTING ISREAL. Only recently, Benjamin Netanyahu, was very angry at meeting he held regarding these boycotts. They destroyed the Apartheid in South Africa and they will Free the people of Palestine. To this end, I have two proposals which I hope you will agree and pass around your social networks.
Proposal No 1: Boycott ONLY 1 supermarket.
Coming from the financial world, I can bore you with lots of data regarding Tesco’s financial situation and its position in the market but I will spare you. Instead, know this, Tesco is in financial trouble however, when requested to stop funding Israel and purchasing West Bank goods they replied:
“We understand that many customers have strong views from a wide variety of positions about the situation in the Middle East. I would like to assure you that we have no plans to stop trading with Israel. We also have no plans to change our sourcing arrangements from Israel…”
So my proposal is this. Boycott Tesco and shop from the other supermarkets. If you can avoid the ones BDS say great, if not, its cool, But AVOID Tesco at all cost. Avoid Israeli goods if you can at the other supermarkets using the Buycott App, but only IF you can. The MAIN THING IS: AVOID TESCO.
How do you check if your making a difference. Google “Tesco Share Price”, watch the chart fall and know it is YOU that is making that happen for the people of Palestine. For comparison, 4 weeks ago, the share price was above 300p. After local rallies, today it looks like this:
LON: TSCO - Aug 8 5:03 PM GMT
It's your choice, but as they say, every little helps....
Proposal No 2: Boycott ONLY 1 media outlet
Again, I won’t bore you with BBC Licence fee figures but know this. Without your licence fee, the BBC can not report pro-Israeli Biased news to people who know no better. If there are less of these people, there will be more at the protests you and I attend. Simple. To make this finite, I propose a week in which to cancel you TV Licence. That week, commencing 25th of August 2014, when we all cancel our licence and say to the BBC, SHAME ON YOU!
That’s it, no other proposals.
Please Please, continue to rise and be heard, continue the protests, continue the struggle on the social networks to expose the Zionists for what they really are and provide awareness to the millions who play ignorance, that watch the BBC and don’t know any different and those that support the Zionists.
Let’s continue our fight in this 60 year battle for the Freedom of the Palestinian People.
The Palestinian Voice.
This is so sweet! Makes me cry, in a good way.
My Grand Pa had Alzheimer's... It's so hard to see a person lose their memories bit by bit over time. To see them fade in a way and feel they are far from you.
But when that memory comes back, for even a few minutes ... It's overwhelming. I always tried so hard to savor those moments, feel them and be a part of the memory.
Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I’m telling lies.
It’s in the reach of my arms,
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I’m a woman
I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
It’s the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I’m a woman
Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can’t touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them,
They say they still can’t see.
It’s in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I’m a woman
Now you understand
Just why my head’s not bowed.
I don’t shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing,
It ought to make you proud.
It’s in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need for my care.
’Cause I’m a woman

Irena Sendler (née Krzyżanowska, also referred to as Irena Sendlerowa in Poland, Nom de guerre Jolanta; 15 February 1910 – 12 May 2008) was a Polish Roman Catholic nurse/social worker who served in the Polish Underground during World War II, and as head of children's section ofŻegota, an underground resistance organization in German-occupied Warsaw. Assisted by some two dozen other Żegota members, Sendler smuggled some 2,500 Jewish children out of the Warsaw Ghetto and then provided them with false identity documents and with housing outside the Ghetto, saving those children during the Holocaust.
The Nazis eventually discovered her activities, tortured her, and sentenced her to death, but she managed to evade execution and survive the war. In 1965, Sendler was recognized by the State of Israel as Righteous among the Nations. Late in life she was awarded Poland's highest honor for her wartime humanitarian efforts. She appears on a silver 2009 Polish commemorative coin honoring some of the Polish Righteous among the Nations.
