The Spirit of '45 2013 I love the old days 7.5 out of 10 This was a really excellent documentary. I am fascinated with old film footage and pictures. My dad was two years old in 1945 so I love to get the perspective of things in relation to my dad's age and my grandparents. Who were 26 and 25. This film is real and during it I kept thinking it's all still the same. When will people get it that we need to make the world a better place and it's going to take all of us to do it. And we all can do it! Each one of us can make a difference! I know it's slow moving to change the way the world is and to change the political policies that keep us in our "places". It's not about money and politics... It's about our rights! We have the right to have a good life. ALL of us!
Man About Dog 2004 One of my favs! 8.5 out of 10 I love this movie and could watch it over and over. Wait... I have! Still love it every time too! I just found a link to it so I thought I would add it to the reviews even though I haven't seen it lately. I'm really just trying to distract myself tonight... We have a very sick cat tonight :~(
I love old movies. This is good for a real laugh! Sometimes we all need that. This movie will make you laugh. I love the old style humor and slap stick comedy and you know what's going to happen but laugh anyway. Laurel and Hardy are classic icons for a reason. I will be watching a few more of their movies soon as I enjoyed being swept away to a happy silly place!
Safety Not Guaranteed Feel Good I Like it! 6.5 out of 10 Not the best of story lines to get to the story, the magazine thing was weird to me. Once we got passed that it was great! The acting was good the characters had chemistry and I wanted to see what was going to happen next so that's good. Loved the end, what can I say! :~) Would probably watch it again if it was on late night and I wanted a feel good movie.
Short Term 12 (2013) Good Movie 7.0 I liked this movie even though it could be a little slow in places. All the characters were very good and interesting. I'm glad I saw it but probably wouldn't sit and watch it again. I think this movie has a pretty good and true message... Basically, we're all fucked up in one way o r another for many reasons in our lives but the thing is not to be controlled by the bad things or bury them. It's much better to get them out and let them go. It's then you can find happiness. :~) That's good!
Jeff, Who Lives at Home (2011) I Love This Movie! 9 out of 10 I have watched this movie a few times now and it never fails me. It moves at a wonderful pace carrying me gently to the end, which I love. There is not a lot of unnecessary filler and the scenes are great The acting by Jason Segel is his best no doubt and is just so... Louise! I always leave this movie with the reminder to follow what's inside and feels right. And everything happens for a reason... And everything happens the way it's supposed to..And, you get it anyway. Anyway great movie and no doubt I'll see it again! One funny thing... I can never remember the right name of this movie and usually call it "The Kevin Movie" :~)
Drive (I) (2011) Disappointing with no direction 4 out of 10 Ryan Gosling was uber cool and calm. I loved him in Half Nelson and yet again proved his acting abilities. BUT... This movie lacked many things. A clear plot was one. Through the entire movie I felt like I was missing something. Maybe the really good parts of this film were left on the cutting room floor. It jumped and rambled from here to there with no real direction in sight. The musical score was in no way a help to the movie and in fact any scene with music was worsened by it. There was unnecessary gory violence that didn't really even fit in to the plot. All in all I was disappointed and still don't really know what I watched or what it was about.
Her (2013) Amazing 9 out of 10 Joaquin Phoenix was, as usual just superb. The perfect actor for this almost solitary on screen performance. Very different original movie, which I love! I can't think of anything else like it. I think this movie is a reminder we should never forget our human relationships and contact with each other is what really makes the world go around. With so much technology available and everything we need at our finger tips we have the potential to isolate ourselves from the real world and forget what's out there beyond our laptops, pc's and tablets... beauty, love, experience, and life worth living and engaging. Being a part of this world and taking part in the world is something that can bypass us without our realizing it. I can't wait to see this again I feel like there is even more to get from this movie on a second viewing. In the mean time I'm going to turn off my computer and live!!!!
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013) Disappointed 4.5 out of 10 Slow to start and mid way through I thought this had real potential. Could have been a really good movie. Very weak ending just was not impressed. I get the general message... Live Life and all that jazz. Could have been so much better. But gotta love Shirley MacLaine!
Fruitvale Station (2013) Excellent movie. 8 out of 10 Michael B. Jordan gave an amazing performance he has matured from The Wire and I believe will go far in his acting career. I felt like I was with Oscar throughout his very last day. In that day I feel like I got to know him. This was filmed with that thought in mind and successfully done. I am shocked yet again at the deadly force used in what is supposed to be a "Free" country, and saddened by the total disregard of the Bill of Rights and U.S. Constitution. More than anything I am sad a young man with his life ahead of him died. My heart goes out to the family of Oscar Grant.
