Not my horse… but
This lovely creature is not my horse but I did have a horse when I was about 9 or 10… we had him till I was about 16 or 17.
His name was Thunder and he was quite a horse! He loved to drink Dr. Pepper and eat watermelon! If he saw that anyone had either of them he would whinny and stomp the ground till he was offered what he wanted! He was stubborn but a really cool horse. I had a saddle for him but sometimes I would ride without it. If I did and my butt slipped off to one side just a bit he would stop dead in his tracks so I wouldn’t fall off.
One thing about Thunder… he did not like dogs! Where we lived there was quite a lot of land that I could go where I pleased but our neighbours (about a ¾ of a mile away) had dogs and if I went anywhere near them their dogs would come out and bark and try, stupidly to chase Thunder. It was simple… when the dogs got too close I would let the reins loose and hold on tight… Thunder would take care of the rest! If they got close enough he would grab them by the hair on their backs and give them a little toss! That would usually do the trick and we would be left alone.
We had three dogs along with Thunder and they got along for the most part bar one…. Smokey was a husky and a smart dog with a tendency to get into trouble! One day I was sitting in our front room in the trailer… I was watching TV and I saw the horse run by the window…. Then I saw the dog pass the window chasing the horse… I thought this dog has bitten off more than he could chew! So I watched and I learned…
A few minutes later… I saw the dog running back the other way away from the horse who was now chasing the dog!
A few minutes later… Thunder ran passed the window again with Smokey behind him…
And on they went with their game taking turns chasing and being chased! It was just too funny and cute!
The two also shared a fence when the Smokey was in his kennel… sometimes if Thunder was in a tortuous mood he would stand by Smokey’s fence…. The dog would go crazy barking and jumping on the fence trying his very very best to irritate Thunder…. But! Thunder would not budge…. Instead he would hang his head and drop it nose to the ground… dog still going bonkers and then…. Thunder would blow out his nose really hard so the dirt would fly up everywhere and he would stare… Poor Smokey could only take so much and then would give up and shamefully turn his tail and hide in his dog house! They had a very unusual relationship to say the least!
Thunder was a super smart horse. He did NOT like my mother! It was so very funny every time without fail when she would try to ride him he would faithfully pitch her off! She would get so mad and frustrated! Lol it was just too too funny! (Trust me she deserved it)
Thunder was quirky and another one of his quirks was water….. He didn’t like it! I found this out the hard way… one day we were out for a little exploration just the two of us and came upon a very VERY small creek with a very minimal amount of water in it. He put his head down for what I thought was a little drink but I was wrong! He made a leap that would have cleared any Grand National fence! I thought I was going to die of fright! I didn’t fall off but I also didn’t go near water with him again!
Another day I was in the trailer and it started to move! It was shaking like what I imagine an earthquake would be like or a tornado! I ran outside quick and looked around…. Only to find Thunder swaying from side to side with his butt against the house scratching it and looking very happy!!!!!
Thunder moved to my grandparent’s house when my dad and I moved into town… funny they don’t want horses in apartments! And eventually we had to let him move on to another home… where no doubt he made his mark on them too!
Thunder was always so much fun and I really could go on and on about him and his funny stories but I think I’ll stop… For the moment anyway!
I have decided to do a Project 365! Here is just a bit of info behind every pic.
I have an Etsy shop now! Check it out here!!!!
