Ok this is a light and its red… and I guess what I'm really saying is I am lazy today!
Michael has a bit of a cold and was in bed off and on today. He's a bit better now… and I am lazy!
We were in the red light district in Amsterdam. We read in one of those travel books you should go and see it no matter what… the book even said you may not like it but it’s something worth seeing. They were right…
It was really weird. We didn’t go there late at night. It was the evening so it wasn’t in full flow. But we got the picture anyway. The streets are small and there are narrow alleys all filled with these doors/windows and you can guess what’s behind them. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about it to be honest. It’s weird when it’s right in your face. And it was strange to say the least. Some of the girls were very beautiful but most just looked like any other women. Some were posing trying to get business and others were just sitting their reading books and looking very bored.
The streets of Amsterdam are the most beautiful I have ever seen. It was a strange contrast to see woman selling sex. Though I have to say when we were in Las Vegas we saw women on the streets selling sex too but they didn’t look so relaxed and I'm sure were in danger every second. I know we would have seen the same many other places but just not so noticeable.
I don’t think badly of women that do this. I hope more than anything that they are in a safe environment. In Amsterdam I think they are. I think anyone that judges another person for something is just wrong. No one person has the right to judge another… We each do what we want to do and sometimes we do things we have to do. That doesn’t make anyone bad.
As we walked in Amsterdam at first I couldn’t look at the prostitutes… I couldn’t look them in the face. But the more we walked the more I realized it wasn’t them that had a problem but me. So I looked. I looked them in the face and in their eyes. Some looked back at me and smiled nice warm smiles and others didn’t. What I saw was women working and doing a job. I saw some strong women and I saw some women that looked blank… maybe that was their work face maybe not. I don’t know. They all deserved a place that was safe.
It’s supposed to be the oldest job in the world… who ever said that I don’t know but I do know one thing. It will happen. People will sell sex and other people will buy it. The thing I know the most is that whoever is doing the selling and the buying both parties have the right to be safe. That will never happen if it’s illegal. I think regulated prostitution is the answer.
I had a look on Wikipedia and found this…
I was surprised to find that it is legal and regulated in the following countries…
That was a lot from a lamp and a lazy person wasn’t it!
I have decided to do a Project 365! Here is just a bit of info behind every pic.
I have an Etsy shop now! Check it out here!!!!
