My grandpa had a greenhouse when I was little. He grew tomatoes and peppers and a few other veggies and would sell them to local businesses. I had a super green thumb and seemed to know everything about plants. I spent loads of time with him in the green house… helping and learning and I have the best memories of he and I there with the wood burning stove burning as hot as could be and the radio on and us planting and nursing the seedlings. I was as young as 4 when he had the greenhouse.
I can still remember the smell of the tomatoes when being watered!
Later when my grandpa started losing his memory he wasn’t so interested in the greenhouse and it was left standing for awhile till it was torn down to build the new one… my green house!
Mine went through several modifications and extensions! We would buy old windows at garage sales or maybe someone we knew had windows they gave us… I had glass blocks and we found these really cool sky lights someone dumped on the side of the road… 6 of them…. so in the end I had a really really amazing greenhouse! It even had a hammock in it! the cats would sleep there on the cold nights!
It was great! I loved gardening!
I was also lucky enough to have worked at it! I was actually paid to garden!
I worked at the Ft. Worth Botanic Gardens for about a year or so. Most of the time I was working in the Japanese Gardens. It was like working in heaven! We had a meditation garden that I would rake… once a week in the winter and 3 times a week in the autumn because of all the leaves! I loved it and it was something I will never forget! It took almost 3 hours to rake it but I have to say I was a natural! (just a tiny bit of bragging but true!)
I did the landscaping at my grandparents house too! I loved to be outside and getting my hands in the earth… I loved to make things grow and plant things. it was a passion I got from my grandpa and one that I have still today.
Today it’s not just as easy though… with my knees it’s not so easy but I do have a few plants here and there in the house and I have my kitchen window!
So a few days ago I bought a new little plant and today it made it to its new home! It’s the one on the right in the checked pot!
I'm sure you already know Richard, on the left and the muppets and just beside of him! lol!
Anyway not much more than that today! I did a bit of tidying outside too but I broke the rake! (great excuse to stop!)
If you want to see where I worked… go!
I think you can find the best pics here though…
And this is the meditation garden I raked!
anyway … that’s it! :~)
I have decided to do a Project 365! Here is just a bit of info behind every pic.
I have an Etsy shop now! Check it out here!!!!
